This alpine market town deep in the heart of the Tarentaise valley is a key stop for trains en route to the region's ski resorts from Lyon, Paris, and beyond. Set in the northern Alps in Savoy, Moutiers is at an altitude of 482 metres, and is the gateway to the Trois Vallées (Three Valleys) ski area, close to the Vanoise National Park. Moutiers offers spectacular scenery and outdoor activities in both winter and summer.

Moutiers is a key destination for winter sports enthusiasts and lies close to Albertville, home of the 1992 Winter Olympics. It is the rail terminus for many French ski resorts, which transfer guests by coach from the rail station.

In winter through the spring, skiing is the main attraction, with over 200 ski lifts in the area. During summer, nearby Vanoise National Park offers hiking, mountain biking, mountain climbing, and plenty of other outdoor adventures.

The stone village of Moutiers sits alongside the Isére river and is the perfect setting for strolls through the charming village streets. Twice each week the open-air markets in front of the St Pierre Cathedral tempt shoppers with food, clothing, household items and more. Three supermarkets offer plenty of choice for holiday home renters stocking their refrigerators and kitchen cabinets.
