An increasingly popular entry point to the sunny island of Cyprus, Larnaca Airport has been recently refurbished and is set about 2.5 miles southwest of Larnaca. The facility now hosts flights operated by more than two-dozen airlines. Customers hiring cars at the airport can get to the city’s beautiful harbour in about 15 minutes or they can reach Ayia Napa and other fabulous beach resorts in less than an hour. Getting away is also possible via taxi or airport shuttle, which depart regularly to a handful of popular destinations.

Who to Book With
Travellers can choose from five different car rental companies operating at Larnaca Airport. Local firms Astra and Petsas offer a decent range of vehicles at competitive rates, although if you prefer an international brand, look for Budget, Sixt or Europcar. All car rental check-in counters can be found on the lower floor of the terminal.

Driving
British drivers are generally relieved to learn that Cyprus drives on the left. However, defensive driving is recommended as local driving habits differ from those in the UK. In addition, road conditions are sub-par in certain areas; potholes are common on rural roadways. Seatbelts are compulsory and children under five years of age are not allowed to sit in the front. The vast majority of road signs are written in both Greek and English. The drink-driving limit is 39mg of alcohol for every 100ml of breath.

Transport

Ground transportation at Larnaca Airport is limited. Those headed into town or to other popular destinations in the region may be able to make use of airport shuttles. Otherwise, taxis are on offer but can be pricey. Car hire is valuable not just for getting to and from the airport, but for making the most of your holiday in Cyprus.

Taxis
Taxi service is available 24 hours from the official taxi stand, situated just outside the Arrivals doors – turn right as you exit the terminal building. Be aware that taxis are required by law to use a meter. Prices are substantially higher at night.

Buses
Passengers headed into Larnaca town or Limassol can make use of the Limassol Airport Express shuttle. The price is about £7 for adults and £3 for children each way. Meanwhile, Kapnos Airport Shuttle runs to Nicosia about a dozen times daily. The ride takes about an hour and costs around £6.50.

Facilities

Terminals
All flights arriving and departing at Larnaca Airport use a single terminal building with about 15 departure gates. The terminal is accessible from central Larnaca via route B4, the A3 motorway and route B4 for those approaching from the west and south. The building is split into upper and lower levels; all departure operations take place on the upper floor while arriving passengers move through the lower level.

Parking
Larnaca Airport offers more than 1,000 parking spaces in the long-stay and short-stay car parks located directly opposite the terminal building. Short-term rates begin at £0.80 for up to 20 minutes, while a stay of 12 to 24 hours costs about £8. Long-term rates vary; a stay of five days costs about £30, a week-long stay is about £35, while a two-week stay costs around £60.

Wi-Fi
Passengers can connect to the airport’s free Wi-Fi network in all areas of the terminal, excluding the Baggage Re-claim area.

Accessibility
Larnaca Airport is equipped with full facilities for disabled persons and passengers with reduced mobility in compliance with European regulations. Travellers that need assistance are required to make a request with their air carrier at least 48 hours before departure. Disabled passengers are allowed 120 minutes of free parking at the airport.

Restaurants and Bars
Thanks to upgrades to the terminal, there are more than a dozen food and beverage options available at Larnaca Airport (Departures level). Passengers can find familiar names like Costa Coffee, Burger King, Upper Crust and Sbarro, as well as Greek food via Kouzina, Asian favourites at Yum Cha and a wide variety of meals and beverages at 24 Hours.

Money and ATMs
There are Bank of Cypress and Laki Bank branches on the Arrivals level which offer a good range of banking services, including ATMs.

Shopping
Larnaca Airport offers a great range of shopping opportunities across more than 6,000 square meters of retail space. There is a large array of duty-free items available for eligible passengers, including fragrances, spirits, tobacco products, cosmetics, designer clothing and chocolates. The terminal building also features a pharmacy as well as several gift shops and newsstands with a good selection of travel accessories.
