A historic market community now resting comfortably on the outskirts of Greater London, Romford is now largely a residential area within the Borough of Havering and features a handful of enjoyable attractions. The town still boasts a large variety of shopping opportunities including the Romford Market, The Mall Romford and The Liberty shopping centre. It also offers a number of memorable sporting venues such the Romford Greyhound Racing Stadium, some great golf courses and an ice-skating rink home to the local hockey team, the Romford Raiders. Who to Book With
Rental brands operating within the Romford administrative area include Enterprise, Alamo and National Car Rental. Enterprise is located just off of Eastern Ave W/A12 on Mawney Road whilst Alamo and National can be found on Clydesdale Road just east of Rom Valley Way/A1245. Driving
Driving in Romford is generally less stressful than motoring further into the depths of Greater London, although space and parking remains a frequent concern nonetheless. Visitors can find the largest array of parking options in the vicinity of The Liberty shopping centre and The Mall Romford, although getting there early is essential on weekends, especially around Christmas time.

Getting to and away from the area is generally best done via A12/Eastern Ave, which provides a quick connection to the M25 Motorway to the east and Hackney to the west. Additionally, it provides a good connection to A406, which functions as a direct artery to London City Airport at the Docklands.

Transport

Getting around Romford is certainly possible and often advantageous via car hire for those spending time here, although extensive access to Greater London’s public transport network is also available and very useful for many visitors.

Trains
Rail passengers can reach central Romford via Romford train station on London’s Great Eastern Main Line. The facility is located on South Street near the junction at Victoria Road. All services are operated by Greater Anglia; most trains run between Liverpool Street station and Shenfield whilst direct departures for Upminster are frequently available as well. Check with National Rail for the latest schedules and ticketing.

Buses
Romford is a major centre for TfL’s London Buses network and is well connected to points throughout the region by bus. From here, visitors can board services to Leytonstone, Stratford, Dagenham and Canning Town in addition to night services to Paddington and Harold Hill.

Taxis
Metred taxi service in Romford is available both via private cars as well as London’s iconic black Hackney Carriage cab services, which can be obtained at official ranks or by flagging them down on the street. Local private companies include Star Mini Cabs, Havering Mini Cabs and Atlas Radio Cars.

Adventure Island - For great family fun, cruise eastward to Adventure Island in the lovely seaside resort of Southend-on-Sea. This free-admission amusement park offers a number of thrilling rides in an excellent location adjacent to the beach and the Southend pier. The drive along A12/A127 will generally take up to an hour at a leisurely pace.

Weald County Park - Located near Brentwood, this park is lovely for a relaxing picnic amid 500 acres of lakes, wooded areas and tree-lined avenues. The park is only about 20 minutes away from Romford in light traffic and also features a renowned country club.

Dover Castle - For something a bit further afield, make the trip to Dover in Kent to check out stunning views and fascinating history at Dover Castle. This unforgettable attraction is set atop the region’s iconic white cliffs and is open year-round. The trip via the M25 and M20 should take about 1.5 hours.
