Paignton Guide

As part of what is known as the 'British Riviera,' it is easy to see why thousands of tourists descend on Paignton in Devon, England, each year. The coastal town was originally a Celtic settlement in the 11th century, but it grew into a fishing village when a habour was built in 1847. The town is home to some of Britain's best beaches which are easily reached by car hire in Paignton.

One of the most popular tourist spots in the town is the Torbay Picture House, which is still open to visitors on tours. It was built in 1907 and is thought to be the oldest cinema in Europe. It was also frequented by the famous crime writer Agatha Christie who lived in nearby Torquay. The cinema is in easy reach with cheap car hire in Paignton.

By far the most popular attractions in the area are the stunning sand beaches. If your driver's license is foreign (for example, in Chinese), you must bring a translation with you. Only your original passport and driver's license will be accepted - a copy is not sufficient.
