Haverfordwest Guide

The county town of Haverfordwest is found in the west of Wales about 35 miles south of Fishguard. The main attraction for tourists to the town is how close it is to the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park. The town is an important place as most roads to the surround village on the coast have to come through here.

Cheap car hire in Haverfordwest is the best way to get out and discover Britain's only coastal national park. It is one of three in Wales and has spectacular coastlines of beaches and sheer cliffs edges that look out into the Irish Sea. Much of the inland is mountainous in appearance with scattered marsh land with great walking routes.

The town itself can date back to around the 12th century and takes its name from the English word heffer for fat cow. Some historians discount this theory and simply say that the name has no meaning. Take a trip to the museum in a car hire at Haverfordwest and then have a look around the castle behind it.

The town is a picturesque Welsh place which is mostly residential on the east bank of the River Cleddau that runs through the centre. The west bank is where the centre is and here you can find a variety of shops and stores for a little shopping.

Keep in mind that the local rental company will reserve a certain amount on your credit card as a deposit. This requires the PIN code for your credit card. If your driver's license is foreign (for example, in Chinese), you must bring a translation with you. Only your original passport and driver's license will be accepted - a copy is not sufficient.
