Enfield is one of London’s luxuries. The greenest and least built up of all the boroughs, Greenfield makes for a sometimes necessary escape from the hectic nature so characteristic of the rest of London. Surrounded by such immense natural beauty, Enfield is the perfect place from which to take a scenic Sunday drive or even embark on a day of exploring the city’s neighbouring villages. Whatever you plan to do, be assured that there are enough car rental companies in the city to equip you with the perfect car.
Who to Book With
Avis, Budget, Hertz and Easycar are but a few of the famous names on the car rental scene in Enfield. Car rentals can be easily arranged with any one of these companies, made even easier if booked online before reaching the city. The offices of these and many other agencies can be found at the main railway and bus stations and at a few other locations in the city.
Best Time to go
As with most of London, the climate in Enfield can best be described as temperate, with warm summers and cold winters. Peak season in Enfield is during the summer months, when the city sees a large influx of tourists. Prices rise during this time, so pre-booking rooms and cars in advance is recommended.

Driving
Driving in Enfield is not always necessary, as the city has made available a reliable and efficient public transport system. That said, having a rental car in the city won’t be a hassle, especially for travellers interested in exploring the outskirts and other towns. In fact, as of last year, the city of Enfield has in some ways been promoting the use of cars by relaxing the parking restrictions. On Sundays, all vehicles parking in the centre will be afforded three hours free parking in council-owned parking areas. Nothing else about the Pay-and-Display system has changed, except that the machines are programmed to write the first three hours off. There are also plenty of private parking garages available for the rest of the time.

The public transport in the city is of a high standard, comprised of an extensive network of trains, buses and taxis. While driving in the city is relatively easy, travellers don’t really need to hire a car unless they are planning on moving outside of the city.
Trains
Regional trains to Enfield are an extension of the London Underground and operate on the eastern end of the Piccadilly line, while local trains are operated by Greater Anglia. The central station is Enfield Town, from where tickets for all journeys can be purchased. Tickets need to be validated before boarding, and validation machines can be found on all platforms.
Taxis
Taxis are not too prolific in the city, but there are a few companies that operate here and have managed to garner good reputations. Companies like Green Street Cars and Chase Cars and Couriers can be called in advanced for pick-up in any part of the city. If travellers are lucky, they will be able to flag a taxi down from the side of the road, but it is often easier to find one at a station or a taxi rank.
Buses
The network of buses in Enfield is just as comprehensive, if not more so, than the local train line. Tickets for all bus journeys can be bought from the bus station or purchased on the buses themselves. The bus services in the entire borough are operated by Transport for London, which provides information about schedules online.
Enfield is a great city with much to offer its visitor in the way of sites and activities. However, it is also located in an equally fascinating area. Enfield is not known as the greenest of London’s boroughs for no reason; only a few hours outside of the city walls, travellers will find some remarkable nature parks and gardens perfect for daytrips.
RAF Museum - History buffs will surely appreciate this museum, located only 13kms away in Hendon. The museum is home to a comprehensive collection of artefacts and aircraft belonging to the RAF. The museum also offers daily shows that recreate the events of The Blitz, quite fascinating to attend.
Alexandra Palace - Just 15 minutes outside of Enfield, travellers will find Alexandra Palace in Wood Green. The palace is the most popular attraction in the city, not only because the building is a remarkable piece of British history, but also because the hill on which it is located provides stellar views of London.
The Kings Head Pub - Five kilometres from Enfield is one of the most famous pubs in the region. Located in Crouch End this is a great place to grab a meal, knock back a few pints and mingle with the locals. If you are lucky, you might even be able to catch a stand-up comedy act here.
