Abergavenny Guide

The town of Abergavenny in southeastern Wales is located just 10kms from the border with England by car hire in Abergavenny. A sign on Abergavenny's town hall proclaims the town as 'Gateway to Wales,' and Abergavenny's name translates to 'Mouth of the River Gavenny.'

As public transportation options in this small town are limited, car rental in Abergavenny is highly recommended to anyone wishing to explore this historic town and beautiful surrounding area.

Visitors can either choose cheap car hire in Abergavenny at one of the town's two independent car hire companies or the local Sixt office located just down the street from Abergavenny Castle.

Abergavenny Castle, a former hunting lodge, is also where the exhibits of the Abergavenny Museum are displayed. However, Abergavenny Castle is just one of many historic buildings located throughout this town which was first established as a Roman fort. Raglan Castle is the only castle in Wales where the towers are angular instead of round, and the 13th century White Castle is still only accessible by a footbridge built over a moat.

Abergavenny's location just south of the Black Mountains between the Blorenge and Sugar Loaf Mountains also provides plenty of opportunities for outdoor activities. Cycling paths are located throughout the area, Llangorse Lake is a popular sailing spot, and paragliding lessons are available for more adventurous visitors hoping to someday jump off Blorenge Mountain. The Wernddu Golf Course and Range is situated just east of Abergavenny.

To pick up your car, you will need your voucher, passport, driver's license and a credit card. It is very important that your driver's license and credit card are in the same name as the main driver. Keep in mind that the local rental company will reserve a certain amount on your credit card as a deposit. This requires the PIN code for your credit card. If your driver's license is foreign (for example, in Chinese), you must bring a translation with you. Only your original passport and driver's license will be accepted - a copy is not sufficient.

 Are there any additional costs?

In general, our rates are all-inclusive. Should there be any additional costs, our booking department will get in touch with you before issuing the invoice. Should you object, you can always cancel your reservation with no obligations attached (at least 48 hours in advance).

What kind of insurance is applicable to my car rental?

In general, Liability Insurance, Fire Insurance, All-Risks Insurance and Theft Insurance are included in the cost of your rental car.
