The closest airport to the town of Uddevalla rests about 15 miles to the east, on the doorstep of Trollhattan. Officially known as Trollhattan-Vanersborg Airport, the facility currently serves domestic flights to the capital of Sweden, Stockholm. The airport is the quickest gateway to Uddevalla. This former ship-building hub may not be as industrially famous as it once was, but plenty of interesting landmarks are still thriving, like the 10,000 year old shell banks and Uddevalla’s outdoor marvels. Even though there are no car hire suppliers inside the airport, there are still several major rental agencies providing car hire pickup close to its premises. Driving
Driving in and around Uddevalla is reasonably convenient for travellers. Traffic doesn’t get all that hectic, except for peak hour times during the work week. Street-side parking in the downtown area is available, but many businesses, hotels, restaurants and other services provide on-site parking. The E45 connects Uddevalla with European Route 6 to the west and Trollhattan to the east, passing through the centre of town in the process. Be careful when driving in the winter months. Ice and snow can blanket the streets, creating havoc if motorists are not cautious.

Transport

Once tourists arrive into the airport, it is possible to reach the heart of Uddevalla in less than 30 minutes. Several transportation options are available, including taxis, public buses and the ever-present car rental services. Trollhattan Central Train Station is linked to the airport via the public bus network.

Trains
Trains do not go directly to the airport near Uddevalla. Nevertheless, tourists in Uddevalla will be able to travel by train to the heart of Trollhattan, then take a convenient taxi or bus ride to the airport, which is just three miles to the north of the station.

Buses
Passengers who choose to catch a bus from the airport will need to walk some 500 metres to the nearest bus stop; known as the Maloga stop. If visitors need to view schedules and routes, they should simply visit the Vasttraffik website. Buses do reach the town of Uddevalla, not to mention dozens of other settlements near the main airport. Bus tours can also be arranged before and after arriving at the airport. Taxis
Taxis are certainly the most expensive option when it comes to the airport’s transportation choices. Flygtaxi is a safe option, as most airports around Sweden are serviced by this reputable taxi company. Of course, tourists can also opt for local companies, including Taxi Uddevalla and Taxi Trollhattan. Taxis generally cost between £25 and £30 between the airport and Uddevalla.

Facilities

Terminals
Only the one terminal caters for all flights into and out of the airport. It’s operated by Fyrstadsflyget, offering flights to Stockholm Bromma Airport, Sweden. Golden Air, which has its headquarters at the terminal, is the only carrier serving Trollhattan-Vanersborg Airport.

Parking
Ample parking is provided by the airport. It is located just outside the terminal entrance, offering several hundred spaces for patrons. Drivers do not have to pay for parking services, regardless of how long they use the facility.

Wi-Fi
Wireless internet is not available at the airport.

Due to its small size, the terminal doesn’t staff an information desk. Nevertheless, passengers in need of assistance can enquire at Golden Air’s check-in counters, as staff are not only friendly, but always willing to answer questions about the airport or surrounding area.

Any passenger with mobility limitations needs to inform Golden Air at the time of booking. This will allow the airline to arrange necessary assistance for arriving passengers. The terminal is only one storey, so patrons don’t need to worry about lifts and stairs.

Restaurants and Bars
The airport is only small, so refreshments and beverage outlets are rather limited. Nevertheless, the terminal is home to a small café, which boasts a great menu, complete with sandwiches, ice-creams, desserts and drinks. The café also provides excellent views of the runway.

VIP Lounges
There are no VIP lounges found within the terminal building.

Money and ATMs
Automatic teller machines are found inside the terminal. However, it is best to exchange money prior to flying from Stockholm. Monetary exchange booths are limited around Uddevalla and at the airport.

Shopping
The facilities at the airport are limited, and visitors will find very little in the way of shops. There are several gift and knick-knack stalls selling souvenirs and other local items.
