Car Hire

Sitting along the Mediterranean coast, less than 30 miles from Murcia and just 20 miles from Cartagena, Murcia-San Javier Airport offers access to both cities as well as other destinations in the region. Local buses connect the airport to Murcia and Cartagena, as do taxis. However, the quickest and most convenient way to access destinations close by is with car rental in Murcia San Javier Airport, with Murcia a 40-minute drive to the northwest and Cartagena a 30-minute coastal drive to the southwest.

Who to Book With
Well-known international supplier Europcar and Spanish firm Centauro have car hire desks in the Arrivals hall. Vehicles can be collected in the car park, which is directly in front of the passenger terminal, from where it is accessible on foot.

Driving
Parking rules in Spain can be difficult to understand as they change according to the day, the week or even the month. Sometimes parking is prohibited on one side of the street, while on other days it is restricted on the opposite side. On-street parking is colour coded, with blue zones offering ticketed parking. Serviced petrol pumps are commonplace and most accept credit card for payment. Autopistas de peajes, or AP motorways, are toll roads, with tolls paid at booths. In Spain, it is a requirement to have two warning triangles and one florescent jacket for each passenger in the vehicle.

Transport

For quick access to the cities, arriving passengers can self-drive from the airport. Buses are cheap but take longer, at around 1 hour to Murcia, and do not leave directly from the airport. They also cease to operate after 18:45. Taxis are available but can be an expensive option.

Taxis
Airport taxis are provided by Unión Radio Taxi Mar Menor and depart from directly outside of the passenger terminal. There is a separate taxi rank with taxis to Santiago de la Ribera.

Buses
Buses leave from outside the passenger terminal for Santiago de la Ribera. From here, local Región de Murcia Transporte buses operate to Murcia, Cartagena, Campoamor and Alicante. The number 70 takes passengers to Murcia’s city centre.

Facilities

Terminals
There is only one terminal at Murcia San Javier Airport and it has an annual passenger throughput of over 1.2 million. Regular and low-cost carriers operate flights to cities throughout the UK as well as to other European destinations.

Parking
There is one car park on site that is located just a few metres from the passenger terminal and is accessible on foot. Daily rates for up to four days are about £8, with the day rate dropping to £6 a day thereafter.

Wi-Fi
There are no internet services at the airport.

There is an information counter in the public area of the terminal, near the check-in desks.

Accessibility
Assistance is available for passengers with reduced mobility. Passengers can gain assistance at one of the airport’s meeting points or by going to their airline check-in counter. Meeting points are located in the main hall and just outside of the terminal entrance.

Restaurants and Bars
There are two Serunion cafeterias in the terminal that offer a wide range of food choices, with one in the public zone and one in the passenger-only area. There is also a Subway branch in the passenger-only area.

VIP Lounges
There are no VIP lounges at Murcia San Javier Airport.

Money and ATMs
There is one ATM located in the main hall of the terminal, near the entrance/exit doors. There are no banks or currency exchange services on site.

Shopping
There are three shops on site where passengers can purchase a variety of items ranging from perfume to pickles. Gifts, toys and cosmetics can be purchased at Merlia, while local gourmet products can be had at the Ibérica Shop.
