Vilanova I La Geltru is the capital of the Garraf district in the Barcelona area of Spain. The town can be found between Barcelona and Tarragona.

The town has a population of around 60,000 people.

In the 18th and 19th century, the economy of the town was based on agriculture and wine. The focus then changed to the textile industry. Today the industries include both textile and paper. The town is now modern and bustling with life.

Tourists need to visit some of the attractions while in the city. The Can Papiol Museum used to be a summer family house from the 17th and 18th century. The Masia Cabaynes is also one of the grand summerhouses from the Cabayne family. Here you can visit the gardens and woodland. It is necessary to check on opening times with the tourist office.

The town is renowned for its seafood restaurants. One well-known dish of the area is Xato. This food is celebrated in the festival of Xato. During the year, the town holds other festivals including 'Carnaval' [in February] and 'Festa Major' [in August]. In these festivals, sweets are thrown at the crowd.

Restaurants in the area include La Platja, a seafaring tavern; Restaurant el Rossegall and the Pica Tapas Restaurant, all offer local specialities and seafood.

When travelling by road to Vilanova I La Geltru, you take the C-32 motorway from Tarragona and Bologna following the signs for the town. The airport is situated just outside Tarragona.
