Explore Salou

Tourists are drawn to Salou mainly by its very popular Port Aventura park. This is a Universal Studios theme park with the biggest rollercoaster in Europe called Dragon Khan, and is located only 10 minutes drive north of the city centre. This amusement park is filled with hotels, restaurants, games, and of course fun fair rides. Another is  the Aquopolis Water Park, great for kids with many rides, waterslides and fun games to involved with.

Salou is steeped in history, with numerous relics scattered throughout the city. In the city’s centre is a statue of king Jaume I who conquered Salou from the moors during the 13th Century. Not far from the statue is the Old Tower, which was constructed by the Archbishop of Tarragona in 1530. His name was Pere de Cadona, and today the tower now acts as an art centre exhibiting work from local artists.

There are an abundance of activities for holidaymakers to enjoy and take part in. Not only are there plenty of beaches for watersports and soaking up the suns rays, Salou also offers activities for the more adventurous including; parasailing, cycling, golf, horse riding, and tennis. In the evening stroll around its streets and choose from a variety of restaurants and clubs.

Salou is situated in a great location for exploring its many surrounding towns, beach resorts, and other interesting sites. Easily reachable by car is the beautiful town of Figueres, featuring the Salvador Dali Museum. Following on from here is Barcelona, a stunning architectural gem, with Montserrat’s monastery and Gaudi architecture.

Transport

Reus Airport is the nearest airport to Salou. Avis, Europcar, Gold Car Rental and Hertz each operate from desks in the arrivals hall. If this is your arrival destination then be sure to book car hire at Reus Airport in advance. The majority of international flights arrive at Barcelona Airport. If car hire is not for you there are several other options for getting to Salou from the north. Airport shuttles, Aerobus, Rapid Bus and Metro each operate from Barcelona Airport into the city centre. Taxis are always an option, however, these can be very expensive if travelling long distances.  From the city centre to Salou are public buses operated by Plana and trains operated by RENFE. You'll find there to be a lot of changes which is why hiring a car is always the most convenient form of transportation.
