A stunning Moorish town lies in Costa Calida. It is called Mojacar and is distinguished by its many white, sugar lump style houses scattered over the hillside. This area is the most popular tourist destination in the Southeast and with its perfect location between the mountains and Mediterranean Sea, it is one of the must-see places in Spain.

The history of this town proves to be the oldest in Spain stretching back for over 4000 years. Inhabitants include the Phoenicians and the Carthaginians, as well as the Romans and the Moorish Sultans. The Moors had the strongest influence over the city as can be seen by the Moroccan appeal that oozes from every corner of the town.

In the 15th century Mojacar was reclaimed by the Spanish government, but the Moroccan architecture will always be preserved due to a law passed in 1987.
