Cala D Or is a fabulous resort in the district of Santanyi on the southern coast of Majorca. Cala D Or was originally a small fishing village and has gradually expanded to cover 4km of sandy creeks and coves. The town has managed to retain its small village feel with only a few newer tall buildings in the area.
The resort area is divided into two coves by the large marina, which you can enjoy a quiet stroll along or a ride on the mini-train from one area to the other. The larger cove is Cala Llonga which includes the marina.
The town is pedestrianised in the center in Cala Gran, an area of the resort which is lined with shops, restaurants and bars. The shops offer a selection of souvenirs, but you may find prices a little high as there are no other shopping venues in the area.
Cala D' Or is a mixture of sandy coves surrounded by pine trees and dunes. Sun loungers, parasails, and pedaloes are available for rental. There are several other small coves for sunbathers to enjoy as well. If the area becomes a little too crowded, take a day trip to Es Trenc. It is home to a beautiful beach of white, soft sand and clear blue waters. It's a quiet place to spend a day relaxing in the sun and playing in the water. Cala Gran hosts one of the larger beaches, but all are relatively small.
Visit Felanitx's Sunday market, it's a great day outand is one of the busiest markets on the island and is well worth the time to get there. Pick up local pottery as well as other local wares. Be prepared to haggle for the best prices.
Nightlife in Cala D Or is low-key with much of the entertainment being hotel based, but there are a range of bars in the town centre. Overall, Cala D Or is more suited for families looking for a quiet, peaceful holiday.
