Zilina Airport is actually located about 10kms from the city bearing the same name and accommodates a mixture of schedule and chartered flights. It is not a very large facility and most passengers passing through here are heading for the city. Several transfer options are available with the most convenient being car hire at Zilina Airport.

Construction of the airport took place in the early 1970s to cater for the transport needs of the rapidly growing city of Zilina and the first flight was to Prague. This remains the principle destination to be reached by schedule flight and the route is operated by Czech Airlines. A local air ambulance service also operates from here and it is popular with leisure craft.

Considering that this is a reasonably modern airport that serves one of the largest cities in Slovakia's the choice of facilities remains fairly basic. You will find toilets, somewhere to buy snacks and drinks and car rental in Zilina Airport but very little else.

Although it is dominated by the car manufacturing industry, the city of Zilina has several attractions and there is a reasonable range of hotel accommodation to choose from. If you have made use of cheap car hire at Zilina Airport, taking a drive around the beautiful local mountainous countryside is a must.
