Car Hire Praia de Luz

Built around an old fishing village, Praia de Luz has grown to become one of the top beach resorts in the Algarve district. Part of Portugal's flourishing tourism industry, the 'Beach of Light', is now predominately a tourist town, with numerous holiday-villa complexes dominating the commercial activity. Praia de Luz has the pride of being considered a Blue Flag beach, thanks to its high quality of beach and sea. The beach has two characteristic parts, the white sand characteristic of beaches in Algarve and another 'rock zone'. The location can be reached by driving from nearby towns by the use of car hire or by flying to the Faro airport.

As a tourist destination Praia de Luz is unique in that it hardly has any hotels, instead the majority of visitors rent villas and bedrooms. This allows for a cosy experience and a truly unique holiday. Apart from the beautiful beach, other attractions include the church of Nossa Senhora de Luz, 'Our Lady of Light'. The church was destroyed in 1755 due to an earthquake but has since been reconstructed. There's also a roman archaeological site for those interested.

There is also a long cobbled walkway for those who would like to take a walk near the beach and watch the sunset. The walkway is decorated with various designs. The town also boasts a number of restaurants and some pubs and night clubs. There are also a number of souvenir shops that dot the area, allowing tourists to take a part of Praia de Luz back home with them.

The town is also located near other major attractions in Algarve, and many tourists opt to stop of at Praia de Luz for a relaxing couple of days before continuing with their tour of Portugal. The lovely beach is its main draw and during peak season the area is filled with tourists from around the world.
