Located on Portugal's �Silver coast' to the north, the town of Caldas da Rainha, is a charming coastal town founded by Queen Leonor in 1485. Meaning �The Queen's Hot Waters�, a settlement and free hospital were constructed there after the queen was healed of several ailments by the town's thermal waters.

Over the years, Caldas da Rainha grew and in the 18th and 19th centuries, it reached its peak, under the reign of King Jao V when the thermal free hospital was expanded and improved. A summer palace and town hall were also created which gave the town much prominence. Many of these grand buildings have been preserved and are open to the public.

If your driver's license is foreign (for example, in Chinese), you must bring a translation with you. Only your original passport and driver's license will be accepted - a copy is not sufficient.
