Mellieha is an attractive hilltop village with a central street winding downhill. The centrepiece of the old town is a 19th century Baroque church dedicated to the ‘Birth of Our Lady’. This locally-built church features five bells as well as altars decorated with fine paintings by the best Maltese artists. Mellieha's festivities occur during September every year, with various cultural events for tourists to enjoy such as several art exhibitions, musical concerts, folk singing, firework show and a traditional religious procession. It's a great night out!

Other parts of the island host charming towns, ancient sites and beautiful beaches. Visitors to Valletta, Malta’s bustling capital, will find cathedrals, palazzos and fortifications, as well as a wealth of museums, restaurants and shops. The island of Gozo, to the north, is packed with scenic walks and is easily accessible via car ferry.

Transport

Luqa Airport is 25kms southeast of town and there are buses into Valletta all day; from there, bus numbers 43 and 44 run to Mellieha centre and bay every 20 minutes from 06:00 to 20:00.  Taxis run direct to Mellieha, with fares regulated by meter. The main ferry ports are Grand Harbour Marsaxlokk (Valletta) and Mgarr/Gozo.
