Qawra is a small town on the beautiful Mediterranean island of Malta. It is located on the north eastern coast, surrounded by the majestic, warm waters of the Mediterranean Sea. There is no beach in Qawra, but it is still a popular tourist spot on Malta, full of historical buildings, monuments and picturesque scenes. There are a number of luxurious, and basic hotels and restaurants to serve all tourists visiting Qawra. The town offers many great attractions and activities for the weekend traveller or even the summer vacationer. Car hire in Qawra is available and has become popular with tourists wanting to see the sights in and around the town.

Explore Qawra

Qawra is close to Bugibba and helps to form part of St. Paul's Bay, which is just sixteen kilometers from the capital city of Valletta (pictured above). It is named after the shipwreck of Saint Paul. The localities that form the bay are Burmarrad, Qawra, Buginna, Xemija, Mselliet, and San Martin.

The main road in Qawra is the Dawret-il-Gzejjer, or the Islet Promenade. This is where many of the hotels, resorts, and restaurants are located. It is easy to get from place to place on the roads in the small town, and it is even easier with your own personal vehicle, so book car hire in Qawra before leaving for your holiday.

There are plenty of activities to do here. Though there is really no beach, many tourists swim and bathe from the rocks or their hotel swimming pools. The rocks along the coast are a favourite spot for many to enjoy a few hours of sunbathing. Qawra is also a popular location for water sports, including speed boat and banana boat rides.

The town is also the site of the Qawra Tower. This tower, now a restaurant, was built by the Knights of St. John and is one of many built on the island.

Transport

The closest airport to Qawra is Malta International Airport, located 30 minutes drive south. If hiring a car is not for you there are buses and taxis available, operating in and around Qawra as well as to and from the airport. However, buses are far cheaper but wont take you to rural parts of the island, so if you wish to explore the coastal beaches then car hire is your best bet.
