Almaty has many interesting sights, including a set of 125 fountains located across the city that are a tourist's delight.

The most famous fountain is the Oriental Calendar fountain, which represents the 12 animals of the Kazakh calendar, very similar to the Chinese animal cycle. Almaty was also considered for the 2011 Olympic Winter Games but was rejected but did win the host for the 2011 Winter Asian Games. Almaty is also the largest city in Kazakhstan, making it was likely candidate to compete for the 2022 Olympic Games in the future.

An interesting fact about Almaty is that it is named after the apple that is indigenous to the area. Almaty literally means 'rich with apple' and is known for its great genetic diversity of apples around and in its area. The world's largest apple is also located in Almaty.

Another popular attraction in Almaty is the aerial tramway that takes visitors to Kok Tobe which is a hill to the southeast where there is a large television tower for the city of Almaty as well as a variety of amusement parks for tourists as well as locals. Also on the hill are a variety of restaurants that are geared specifically towards tourists in the area.

What do I need to do when picking up a car?

To pick up your car, you will need your voucher, passport, driver's license and a credit card. It is very important that your driver's license and credit card are in the same name as the main driver. If your driver's license is foreign (for example, in Chinese), you must bring a translation with you. Only your original passport and driver's license will be accepted - a copy is not sufficient.
