At 25 miles from Milan, Italy’s busiest airport offers holidaymakers easy access to the city and top attractions in the Lombardy region. Local buses run between the air hub and Milan, taking up to one hour or more, while faster trains run from Terminal 1 into the city. Perhaps the fastest and most comfortable way to reach the city and other locations in the region is with car hire in Milan Airport, with Milan being a 45-minute drive to the southeast.
Who to Book With
Car hire agents at the facility include global suppliers such as Budget, Sixt and Hertz, and Italian supplier Locauto Rent. These agents have offices in the Arrivals hall of Terminal 1, while Europcar and Avis have presence in the Arrivals hall of Terminal 2.

Driving
Parking is difficult to find in the cities and parking in a prohibited area may result in a hefty fine. The best option is to park in a park-and-ride facility just outside of a city centre. Italy has many Zone a Traffico Limitato (Limited Traffic Zones) and permits are needed to enter these areas. Motorists entering without a permit may receive a steep fine. Petrol pumps are both self-serve and serviced, with serviced pumps being more expensive. Both types of pumps accept credit cards for payment though UK-issued cards may not be accepted. Most motorways are toll routes that run on a ticket system.

Transport
For swift access to the city, arriving passengers can self-drive from the airport. Trains reach the city faster but can get crowded and do not run from Terminal 2, while local buses take longer and usually don’t leave until full. Passengers also have the option of taking a pricey taxi.
Trains
Malpensa Express trains run from Terminal 1 to the Milan Cadorna and Milan Central railway stations. Non-stop trains to Milan Cadorna run every 30 minutes and reach the station in 29 minutes, while non-stop trains to Milan Central take around 50 minutes. Tickets can be bought at the ticket counter in the airport railway station in Terminal 1. A single journey costs around £9, while a family ticket for two adults and two children is around £20.
Taxis
Taxis are available outside of Terminal 1’s Gate 6 and directly in front of Terminal 2. Fares are fixed and stay the same 24 hours.

Buses
Bus tickets for Malpensa Shuttle buses to Milan can be purchased directly from the driver. Buses leave Terminal 1’s Arrivals floor and Terminal 2 Arrivals and take passengers to Milan Central Railway Station. Shuttle buses operate every 20 minutes between 06:20 and 22:00 and every 30 minutes thereafter until just after midnight. A one-way ticket costs around £8.

Terminals
A free shuttle bus connects the two terminals 24 hours. Terminal 2 is the smaller terminal and is used by low-cost carrier EasyJet, while Terminal 1 handles all other air traffic. The airport serves over 19 million passengers annually, with flights arriving from European, Asian, Middle Eastern, North African, Russian and North American destinations.
Parking
There are six car parks on site, with four dedicated to Terminal 1 and two dedicated to Terminal 2. The cheapest tariffs are at the open-air P6 car park and the most expensive tariffs are at car park P2, which is connected to Terminal 1 by lift. Prices run from about £10 to £20 a day, but package plans are available for long-term stays.
Wi-Fi
Passengers can access wireless internet at Check-in, the Arrivals lounge, the Boarding lounge, and restaurants and bars of both terminals. Time can be purchased online.

There are information desks on the ground floor, the first floor and the second floor of Terminal 1, as well as on the ground floor of Terminal 2.

Duty-free items can be purchased in terminals 1 and 2 through Dufry Shops, while electronics can be had in both terminals at Dixon Travel. Elegant clothing is available at Cerruti (Terminal 1) and BM39 (Terminal 2), while accessories can be had at Furla (Terminal 1) and Isi (Terminal 2). Designer brands such as Bulgari, Burberry, Gucci and Hermes also have presence.
