Piacenza is another city in the Emilia-Romagna region of northern Italy. This area had been occupied by Celtics and Liguian tribes in the olden days. Piacenza got its name from the 'Liver of Piacenza', a bronze sculpture of a liver which was found near the city and had the names of regions marked on it. The Palazzo Comunale, also referred to as Il Gotico, is the main sight in Piacenza and it became the seat of the government of the town during its construction in 1281. Medieval Architecture can be seen in the Palazzo Comunale and is a perfect example for a medieval civic building. The design is completed with the typical Guelph merlons, the arcaded frame, and the central bell tower. The main call of this masterpiece is used to conduct meetings, lectures and conferences.

Another palace in this city is the Palazzo Farnese. The Barozzi commonly known as the Vinola is also worth seeing. The Palazzo Landi, Palazzo Costa and the Palazzo Somaglia are other sights of interest which are open to the public. The Chiesa di San Francesco (pictured) is a beautiful gothic style church centered in the Piazza Cavalli, and is a must se sight during your stay in Piacenza.
