Orte is a small town situated about 60kms north of Rome in beautiful Viterbo, Italy. The town is slowly becoming more popular with tourists from around the world although it is still set in its old ways making it an interesting place to visit. The town is positioned in the Tiber Valley on a high cliff, offering fabulous views. Most visitors to this region of Italy book car hire as their form of transport to explore the sights.

Explore Orte

The town's most prominent landmark is its Romanesque bell tower in the church of San Silvestro. It is easy to locate, and the town is easy to navigate by car. Booking car hire in Orte is the most practical way to tour the region as public buses and trains are limited here.

The small town of Vasanello is located five miles south of Orte, and features some interesting landmarks. If you have organised car hire it is easy and fun to visit other towns and villages in the area, as Orte is fairly small and wont take you long to explore.

Less than 40 minutes drive east of Orte are the Marmore Falls in Terni (pictured). These are definitely worth a visit whilst in the area. A stunning landscape of forest, filled with wildlife and scenes of waterfalls pouring down steep, jagged cliffs. Getting here is difficult without a car.

There are many hotels in Orte, and it is possible to find high quality accommodation regardless of your budget. Most of Orte's hotels are situated on Via Lazio area, and are easy to find. The majority offer parking but check before booking your accommodation.

Transport

Travelling in your own vehicle is the most enjoyable way to explore this region of Italy. If you arrange car rental in Orte you can stray off the beaten path and discover the real essence of this beautiful province.

Orte railway station provides easy access to Rome, Florence, and Ancona. 

Rome's Airport, Aeroporto Fiumicino, is the closest to Orte. Trains, and buses operate from the airport into central Rome where tourists will have to book transport to get to Orte. Car hire is the easiest option and can be booked at the airport, to save paying for airport transfers.
