Car Hire

Bari Airport serves the capital of the beautiful Apulia region of Italy, Bari. It is located five miles from the city centre and is sufficiently integrated into Italy's great network of highways. Highway A14, which runs north to south along the Adriatic coast, is easily accessible from Bari Airport, giving those with car rental the option to explore not just Bari, but the beautiful countryside of Apulia. Otherwise, Highway SP73, which runs straight to Bari city centre, can be accessed easily on exiting the airport. Bari Airport is known by two other names: Karol Wojtyla Airport and Palese Airport.

Who to Book With
There are a number of international and local car rental brands with offices at Bari Airport. They are: Hertz Autonoleggio, Avis Autonoleggio, Europcar Italia, Sixt Rent A Car, Maggiore Rent, Locauto, Rent and Services SRL, Zodiac Italia and Auto Europa Sicily by Car. The offices of these companies are located in the Arrivals area. Hire cars are retrieved from the dedicated rental car parking area.

Driving
A warning triangle and a reflective jacket must be available in the vehicle. Petrol stations have credit card facilities, but visitors are advised to clear the use of their card in Italy with their local card supplier before travel. Dipped headlights should be used when visibility is low outside urban areas. Speeding is heavily fined in Italy. In built-up areas, the speed limit is 31mph and on motorways, it is 80mph. All persons inside the vehicle must wear a seatbelt. The majority of motorways have tolls.

Transport

Bari Airport is easily accessed via Italy's stellar network of highways via SP204 and SP156. The latter is especially useful when accessing national highway A14, which runs along Italy's Adriatic coast. Highway SP73 goes straight to Bari city centre from the airport. Public transport is available, with several reliable taxi and bus companies on hand.

Taxis
Two taxi companies operate at Bari Airport: Apulia Taxi and Nuova Co.Ta.Ba. Cabs are metered but travellers have the option of pre-fixed fares or hiring services by the hour. The flag-down rate is around £2.50, increasing to around £4 on public holidays. Fares increase by around £0.65 per 0.6 miles or are charged £16 per hour. When using the meter, passengers are only required to pay the amount indicated―not any additional taxes or motorway tolls.

Buses
There are a number of bus companies providing transfer services between Bari Airport and destinations within and outside Bari. Amtab buses leave the airport for the city centre at A. Moro Square every 40 to 60 minutes, stopping at Viale Europa, Via B. Buozzi, Via Piccinni and Corso Italia. The travel time is around 30 to 45 minutes and the one-way fare is about £0.70. Meanwhile, Tempesta Bus Company provides services for those connecting to the Central Railway Station. The travel time is 25 to 30 minutes and the fare is around £3 one-way.

Facilities

Terminals
Bari Airport has one terminal building which is shared by domestic and international passengers. The Departures area spans one floor while the another floor is dedicated to Arrivals. It is the main airport serving the capital of Apulia region, Bari, handling more than three million passengers each year. The airport is connected to many major airports in Europe. British Airways regularly flies direct from London-Gatwick, while Ryanair flies from London-Stansted. EasyJet has seasonal flights from London-Gatwick.

Parking
Bari Airport currently has five usable parking areas and one which is currently in maintenance (P2 B). The car parks are open 24 hours. Credit cards Visa, MasterCard and American Express are accepted. The base fare covering the first six hours is £1 per hour, while parking for the next six hours costs about £12.

Wi-Fi
Both the Departures and Arrivals areas are Wi-Fi zones. Access is free of charge.

Facilities for disabled persons can be found in Bari Airport. These include wheelchair-friendly toilets and lifts. Persons with reduced mobility can contact airport services for special assistance.

Restaurants and Bars
Restaurants, bars and cafés are found in five areas of both the Departures and Arrivals areas. Autogrill, My Chef and I Dolci di Nonna Vincenza eateries are found here. There are two bars, one of which is a wine bar, at the Departures area.

VIP Lounges
Bari Airport has one VIP Lounge, which is located at the Departures area, right by the pharmacy and the customs office, and before passport control.

Money and ATMs
There is a branch of Banca Monte dei Paschi di Siena at the waiting area of the Arrivals section.

Shopping
Shops for all sorts of products and services are located in both the Departures and Arrivals areas of Bari Airport. The Departures floor has a news kiosk, clothing stores, an antique clock store, a shop for leather and office equipment (Mont Blanc), a wine store, chocolate shops and a duty-free store (Airest). The Arrivals floor has a jewellery shop and a beverage and tobacco kiosk.
