Kerry Airport is also known as Aerfort Chiarrai in Irish, while it is sometimes referred to as Farranfore Airport. It is located in Farranfore, County Kerry, eight miles southeast of Tralee. Flying into this airport is a great way to see the stunning Irish scenery as the airport is within driving distance of a number of local tourist destinations. Therefore taking advantage of car hire at Kerry Airport is recommended.

Who to Book With
There are a number of car rental companies with representatives in the main terminal. International companies such as Avis, Budget, Hertz and Europcar can be found here, along with local company Dooley Car Rental. All suppliers offer advance booking on a number of vehicles.

In order to collect a pre-booked vehicle, you must present the following documentation:

- Both parts of a valid driver’s licence
- The credit card used to make the reservation
- A valid passport
- A booking confirmation email
- Proof of address, such as a utility bill

Driving
Driving in Ireland is similar to driving in England. The drink-driving limit is the same (0.08 percent) and strictly enforced, with serious reprimands for drivers found over the limit. Seatbelts are required for all passengers and speed limits should be adhered to, with fines in place for anyone caught driving over the limit. Distance and speed signs are in kilometres, so ensure you understand the conversion. A map will come in handy as not all roads are signposted. Motorways are well maintained, although some country roads are unlit at night.

Transport

Although both taxis and buses service Kerry Airport, self-driving is the preferred option. As the airport has direct links to National Route N23, it easy to get around the area without delay.

Taxis

Buses
Directly outside of the main terminal is the bus terminus. Here, passengers can find bus services run by Bus Eireann linking Kerry Airport with surrounding areas such as Tralee, Killarney and Limerick. These buses also link to a number of other Bus Eirean stops which have services to the destinations in the rest of the country. Tickets vary in price and can be purchased onboard.

Facilities

Terminals
A number of airlines have regular services to Kerry Airport, including Ryanair and Aer Lingus. There is one main terminal which houses arrivals and departures. Here, passengers will find tourist information, check-in, baggage reclaim and a number of other services. Departures and arrivals boards are available.

Parking
There are two car parks at Kerry Airport. Short-term parking can be found directly outside of the main entrance. Charges change according to length of stay, but the first half-hour is free, with charges of between £1.50 and £8 per day thereafter. The long-term car park is around two minutes’ walk away from the terminal. Here, the first hour is free and then prices run from £3.50 to £5 a day.

Wi-Fi
Wi-Fi is provided at no charge: simply request the details and password from customer services.

Information Services
There is a customer services point in the main terminal. This facility is for passengers wishing to find out about local events, hotel reservations and a number of other services. Customers wishing to use the airport Wi-Fi can obtain details on how to do so here.

Accessibility
Kerry Airport complies with the European standard of airport facilities. This means that the airport has a number of lifts, disabled persons’ bathroom facilities and wheelchair hire. There are a number of disabled persons’ parking spaces directly outside of the terminal. For those needing further assistance, the information services booth can help.

Restaurants and Bars
Kerry Airport has a bar and restaurant, both of which are located in the main concourse and are fully licensed to serve alcohol. Here, customers can purchase a pre-flight drink as there is a choice of wines, spirits and beers. The restaurant offers hot meals as well as a variety of snacks and beverages.

VIP Lounges
There is no VIP lounge in Kerry Airport; however, there are a number of meeting rooms available for hire.

Money and ATMs
ATMs are located throughout the terminal. Along with ATMs, there is a bureau de change outlet next to the customer service information desk in the main concourse. Here, customers can exchange euro and pounds sterling. The bureau also accepts travellers’ cheques.

Shopping
There is a gift shop in the Departures lounge, after security. This shop offers a wide range of duty-free products such as perfumes, wines and spirits, chocolates, and jewellery. There is also a wide selection of books and magazines for customers to grab pre-flight.
