Tatabenya is a city in North-Wetsern Hungary with approximately 75000 inhabitants. This mining town lying in the valley of the brook Galla, at the foot of Stone hill, is an economic and tourism centre. It is situated close to the border with Slovakia.

Tatabenya is mostly known for its brown coal mines. The industrial spirit of the city was dominant before the political changes in 1989. After the fall of the Socialist government the importance of the heavy industry development and the mining decreased and the character of the city has remarkably changed. New industries appeared based on the professional traditions: electronic spare-part production, environmental industry, wrapper production industry, aluminium processing, mechanical engineeringe As a result Tatabenya is assessed as one of the most dynamically developing regions in Hungary.

If you are already in Tatabenya it is worth to visit Vertessz?l?s - a village along the national motorway No. 1, which connects Tatabenya with the town of Tata. This small village is famous with the discovered there nape bone of the 500 000-year-old prehistorical human being called eSamue. Now you can visit there an open-air exhibition of the Hungarian National Museum.
