Lesvos Island is rich in over 3,000 years of history, with stunning beaches and fascinating scenery. Molyvos is situated an hour north (Highway 38) of the island’s main travel hub, Mytilini.

Walking through Molyvos Old Town is a must, despite its uphill wind. The cobbled streets are covered by vines which allow a pleasant day’s walk. Heading towards the castle, you can visit many museums and galleries, including the interesting archaeological museum. The castle plays host to many concerts including well-known Greek musicians and other festivals during the summer.
Molyvos has plenty of interesting stores, from jewellery boutiques to pastry shops. The Old town houses many fine restaurants with views of the coast as well as superb seafood. Numerous ouzeries line the harbour’s promenade with a chance for the visitor to sing along with the entertaining Greek musicians late into the night.
Outside Molyvos, the Bay of Kaloni is the island’s nature capital. Famous for its anchovies and shellfish, this modern town is a thriving summer resort with long sandy beaches. Also worth visiting is Agiassos, an attractive village famed for its pottery and home to an interesting Folk Art Museum.
Mytilini has a small modern airport, with four flights arriving daily from Athens International Airport. Car hire is available here. Book online in advance of travel to secure the best deals from a wide range of cars. You may find yourself without a car if you you leave it until arriving at the airport.
Nightly ferries depart from Athens’ Piraeus Port to Mytilini (duration:13 hours) and the recommended Mytilini and Theopholis are both modern comfortable ships with bars, restaurants and lounges to enjoy.
