Explore Walsrode

Due to the fact that the landscape is so distinctive, the area often refers to itself as 'the Heath District'. It is covered with masses of beautiful flora and fauna, filled with meandering streams and surrounded by rolling hills, a truly splendid place to visit during your stay in Walsrode.

The must-visit place in the town is the open-air Rischmannshof Heath Museum, which opened in 1912, and is home to a rural farmyard with outbuildings and a variety of other exhibits which are worth seeing.

Visit the museum and take a step back in history to the 1970's when the main attraction of the site was built. It is a traditional timber-framed, thatched farmhouse (Fachhallenhaus) and is accompanied by similar style buildings of the same era. Inside the buildings are examples of lovingly restored furniture and implements that would have been made use of in everyday life. There are also exhibitions which display the history of the town and publications from the poet and author Hermann Lons.
