Guide

Kevelaer is best known for being a worship site for the Virgin Mary, thus making it a popular pilgrimage for Catholics in northwestern Europe. Located in North Rhine-Westphalia, Kevelaer sees over 800,000 pilgrims a year, more than half of them being from within Germany and nearby Netherlands.

The current city of Kevelaer was surveyed and mapped in 1975 to form the existing city; however, the area is still rich in ancient German history, especially with the status of being a pilgrimage site. Lodgings are available in Kevelaer for visitors and pilgrims. Accommodations vary in price and services, but are diverse enough to suit everyone's needs. The city is not just popular as a pilgrimage site however, in the 19th century the area grew popular for its natural mineral waters surrounding the region. If your driver's license is foreign (for example, in Chinese), you must bring a translation with you. Only your original passport and driver's license will be accepted - a copy is not sufficient.
