Gera is the largest city in the state of Thuringia, in East Germany. The city of was documented first during the 10th century.

The River White Elster flows through the center of the city. According to the census result of 2006, this city has the human population of about 100,000. This city comes up with the human population density of about 675 people per square kilometer. The elevation of this city is more than 200 meters from the sea level. The major places of interest for tourists to visit in Gera is the cities 16th century town hall, the beautiful Osterstein Castle, and several cathedrals each with it's unique architecture. St. Johannis church is most definitely a must see attraction with its Neo-Gothic look. Other churches include St. Salvator church, which exhibits Baroque artistic styles; St. Trinitatis and Marien church which are of Late-Gothic genre of architectures.
