Vannes Meucon Airport, also known as Vannes Golfe du Morbihan Airport, is a general aviation airport located about nine miles north of the city of Vannes. Vannes is situated right by the Gulf of Morbihan, in the heart of France's Brittany region, which is known for its distinct Celtic customs. Apart from its local culture, Brittany is also known for its archaeological sites, beaches with resorts and seaside rentals, and idyllic countryside, all of which are best experienced by driving in this beautiful region of northwest France.

Who to Book With
Being a general aviation airport means that prior arrangement is necessary if you need car rental when you arrive at Vannes Airport. This is, of course, easily arranged online via a comparator site. Otherwise, the city of Vannes itself has several car hire agencies. Many depots are found in the area around Vannes Railway Station, including the offices of National/Citer, Avis, Hertz, Sixt, Services Plus and Europcar.

Driving
The nearest major highway to Vannes Airport is the N166, which heads north to Ploërmel where you can drive further north along the N24 towards the capital of Brittany, Rennes. When using any of the major highways, you need to be ready to pay tolls. You can pay via credit card or you can buy a transponder chip at Sanef for your card. When you have this chip, you can breeze through the toll stations by using the automatic booth or the télépéage. The city of Vannes itself is easy to navigate on foot. You can park your car at either Le Port Parking Q-park or Republique Plaza Vinci Parc and explore the city from there.

Transport

Renting a car is the best option for those arriving at Vannes Airport as there are no modes of public transport that regularly stop at the airport. There are buses but the closest stops are those in the Saint Avé and Meucon areas, both found north of Vannes city centre. To drive to the city centre, exit the airport via the D778E and get on the D767 heading south. This should take you directly towards Vannes city centre in 15 minutes or less.

Taxis
Taxis are the only other option apart from self-drive to head to your final destination after arriving at Vannes Airport. There are many taxi companies operating in Vannes which you can call to pre-arrange a pick you up at the airport. Radio Taxis Vannetais and ABC Taxis have English-speaking drivers.

Buses
As an alternative, you can take a cab from Vannes Airport to Meucon, around three miles away. In Meucon, you can access Vannes city buses. The Meucon line transports passengers from here to the city centre, passing by Vannes Railway Station en route. A single ticket costs a little more than £1.

Vannes Airport has one terminal building which is used for general aviation purposes. This means that the airport does not receive any scheduled commercial flights. Services offered here include private flying, air charter, air ambulance, flight training, aerial fire fighting, skydiving and police aviation.

Parking
Vannes Airport has a total of 27 parking spots in its car park outside the terminal building. All spots are free of charge.
