Soissons Station Guide

Soissons is located in the Aisne region of France and is easily reached from Paris by rental car or by train. Like many French cities, Soissons is divided in two by a river that divides the city and creates a left bank and a right bank.

The Soissons Rail Station is served by the TER Picardie line between Laon and Paris' Gare du Nord several times a day. Regional trains leaving from Soissons connect the city with Coucy, Cormicy and Guignicourt. The station has basic passenger facilities, including car rental. For the lowest car hire rates and availability, book a car online in advance for pickup at the station.

Soissons was the capital of the region off and on through the Middle Ages and its continued prosperity has ensured the survival of some excellent examples of Gothic architecture. Soissons Cathedral is reminiscent of Notre Dame in Paris with its rounded tower supported by flying buttresses. Occupied by the Nazis in World War II, the city's monuments survived the war and continue to fascinate visitors today.

The motorways in France are well maintained, and driving in Soissons is easy. A car hire allows free exploration of the lush, wooded hills of the area around Soissons. The nearby towns of Noyon and Laon are built around Gothic cathedrals and Compagne is home to the magnificent chateau enjoyed by Napoleon Bonaparte and Napoleon III.
