Rennes-Saint Jacques Airport is a convenient regional air hub situated just three miles south of the French town of Rennes. The airport offers great access to the Brittany region of France via a handful of airlines. Around 400,000 people fly into Rennes each year, using taxis and shuttles to reach their destination. Many travellers opt for a rental car since it’s so easy to drive around Rennes using the toll-free motorway that circles the city. Downtown Rennes is just 10 minutes by car from the airport.

Who to Book With
Five major car hire companies offer their services at Rennes International Airport, including Avis, Europcar, National, Sixt and Hertz. All of the rental car desks are located right outside of baggage claim in the Arrivals hall.

Need to Know Essentials
To pick up your rental at Rennes Airport you need to show the following:

- Valid EU driving licence or International Driving Permit
- The credit card that was used to make the booking
- A second form of picture ID
- A print out of your rental reservation confirmation (if possible)

Driving
Traffic in the centre of Rennes tends to be congested, and parking difficult to find. There is no free parking in the city centre, but ticket machines are never far away. Street parking rates are based on two coloured zones. Green zones cost around £0.50 per hour with a two hour 40 minute maximum stay. Red zones cost approximately £1 per hour with a one hour 30 minute maximum stay. Another option is to park at a free lot next to an outlying metro station like Kennedy or Triangle and use the metro to get around the city centre. French law requires that a fluorescent safety vest, warning triangle and unused breathalyser test must be kept in the car (not in the boot) at all times. Petrol stations are typically self-service, with credit cards accepted at the pump.

Transport

The only transport options at Rennes International Airport are taxis, public buses and rental cars. The airport is located right off of Exit 8 on the main ring road that circles the city. From the airport it takes just 10 minutes to reach the downtown core and around 45 minutes to towns on the northern coast like Dinard and Saint-Malo.

Trains
There is no train service to or from Rennes Airport. The nearest station is Rennes Rail Station in the centre of the city.

The taxi rank is located in front of the Arrivals Hall. The average fare for a trip into the city centre is between £9 and £12, and the journey usually takes no more than 15 minutes. Extra fees are added for a fourth passenger, luggage over 5kg and pets.

Buses
It is possible to take a bus from the airport into the city but it is not particularly convenient. The bus station is located 300m down the road from the terminal, requiring a short walk. From this AireLibre/Aeroport bus station, bus number 57 terminates at the Republique bus stop near the Place de la Mairie downtown. The bus ride takes 20 minutes and costs less than £1. Buses depart every 10 to 30 minutes depending on the time of day, running from 05:26 to midnight, daily.

Facilities

Terminals
The single terminal at Rennes handles around 120 travel destinations across Europe, including 18 French cities and 11 European cities that enjoy same day return flights. Seasonal flights add the UK, Ireland, Morocco and other destinations to the schedule.

Parking
Rennes Airport has three car parks, all of which use the same pricing structure. P1 (165 spaces) and P2 (80 spaces) are located three minutes on foot from the terminal while the larger P3 (690 spaces) is situated directly across the street. All car parks are open from 05:00 to 22:30 Monday to Saturday, and 06:00 to 22:30 Sundays. The first 15 minutes costs £0.50, 15 to 30 minutes costs £1, 30 minutes to three hours is around £2.50, three to 12 hours £9 and 12 to 24 hours around £12. Each additional day will cost you £9. Credit cards and cash can be used for payment.

Wi-Fi
There is no Wi-Fi internet service at the airport.

Information Services
An information desk is situated at the Arrivals Hall, and is open from 08:00 to 22:15 (Monday to Friday and Sunday) and 08:00 to 21:30 (Saturdays).

Accessibility
Rennes Airport has enough access for reduced mobility passengers to reach most parts of the terminal. There are curb ramps, designated parking spots and specially-designed facilities for wheelchairs in the rest rooms. Extra assistance can be found by asking the information desk.

Restaurants and Bars
There are two options for food at Rennes Airport. La Passerelle Restaurant is on the first floor, offering a brasserie-style menu with nice views of the tarmac. This restaurant is open from 1:30 to 14:00, Monday to Friday. L’Escale Café is located on the ground floor of the terminal, selling a range of sandwiches, salads, snacks and drinks. It is open 05:30 to 18:30, daily.

VIP Lounges
There are no VIP lounges at this airport.

Money and ATMs
A Cash Point La Poste can be found in the Departures Hall of the terminal. It accepts a range of bank cards, including MasterCard, Maestro, Cirrus and Plus for cash withdrawals.

Shopping
A Relay news shop is the sole option in the airport for reading materials, snacks and regional products made in Brittany. Relay sells English-language newspapers as well as French news publications. It is open from 05:30 to 18:30, daily.
