Macon Station Guide

The picturesque town of Macon lies in France's Sane-et-Loire department in the famous wine making region of Burgundy (Bourgogne). Macon has two train stations: the Macon TGV Station (Gare de Mcon Loch TGV) and the Macon Rail Station (Gare Macon Ville). The Macon Rail Station is the smaller of the two stations and serves fewer trains and destinations.

The Macon Rail Station serves trains to Avignon, Marseille, Metz, Bordeaux, Grenoble, Dijon, Nice, Chambery, Cormatin, Bourg en Bre and Chalon. Most of these routes are operated seven days a week with several services per day, although with decreased frequency at weekends. From Monday to Friday the station opens from 04:30 to 23:15, while Saturday and Sunday's opening times are 05:30 to 23:15 and 05:30 to 00:45 respectively.

The Macon Rail Station offers limited facilities that include toilets, vending machines, public telephones and a passenger waiting room. For transportation to and from Macon town centre there is a public bus service that stops close to the station. There are taxis available from a stand outside the station building.

Once in Macon, visitors can enjoy a variety of places of interest such as wineries producing the famous Chardonnay, the scenic river area and old town centre. The beauty of the Bourgogne region is also right on your doorstep. A good alternative to public transportation is to hire a car, which makes getting to your onward destination an altogether more convenient and comfortable experience.
