Located on the most northerly reaches of the Cherbourg peninsula, the Port of Cherbourg offers various ferry routes to England and Ireland. This area is a well used shipping point for both Brittany and Normandy, both for passenger transportation and the shipping of cargo. Aside from its regular service ferries, Cherbourg often welcomes cruise liners as well.

The terminal itself is one of the best on the French coast, with high standards of quality and service. Inside the terminal building guests will find a tourist information desk which can help with hotel bookings or direction to car hire desks. There is a currency exchange booth, a newsagent's and a snack bar. Parking is free and there is also a petrol garage onsite.

Destinations served by Cherbourg Port are Portsmouth and Poole in England, and the Irish port of Rossaire. Three ferry companies carry passengers between these destinations and Cherbourg: Brittany Ferries, Irish Ferries and Celtic Link.

To reach Poole or Portsmouth, Brittany Ferries offers two services; one ferry that takes just over 4 hours to make the trip and a Fastcraft link that makes the crossing in only 2 hours, 15 minutes.

Rossaire can be reached with Irish Ferries on one of its thrice weekly crossings which take 17 hours, or you can take the Celtic Link vessel, also leaving three times a week, taking just over 18 hours.

To pick up your car, you will need your voucher, passport, driver's license and a credit card. It is very important that your driver's license and credit card are in the same name as the main driver. Keep in mind that the local rental company will reserve a certain amount on your credit card as a deposit. This requires the PIN code for your credit card. If your driver's license is foreign (for example, in Chinese), you must bring a translation with you. Only your original passport and driver's license will be accepted - a copy is not sufficient.

 Are there any additional costs?

In general, our rates are all-inclusive. Should there be any additional costs, our booking department will get in touch with you before issuing the invoice. Should you object, you can always cancel your reservation with no obligations attached (at least 48 hours in advance).

What kind of insurance is applicable to my car rental?

In general, Liability Insurance, Fire Insurance, All-Risks Insurance and Theft Insurance are included in the cost of your rental car.
