Chamonix Station Guide

Situated at the base of Mont Blanc in the French Alps, this resort town offers all sorts of outdoor sports and gorgeous scenery. The Chamonix Rail Station serves local trains that connect to the TGV station at St Gervais les Bains, as well as a small service to Martigny in Switzerland. Travellers can also hop on a TGV at Charles de Gaulle airport and switch at Lyon to arrive in St Gervais les Bains.

The Chamonix valley is home to continental Europe's largest glacier, the Mer de Glace. Cable cars are an exciting way to take in the view; the Brevent cable car and the Aiguille du Midi cable car climb incredibly high for a fantastic view at chilly heights.

Skiing is a popular activity here, with slopes that cater to skiers of all levels. The Flegere and Brevent areas are easily accessible from the town centre, while the Valle Blanche glacier skiing area requires a full day trip. Expert skiers can head to Argentiere to access the Grand Montets.

For visitors who don't care to strap on a pair of skis, there is ample opportunity for mountain biking and hiking. Many glacier hikes are available, with awe inspiring scenery.

For a road trip out of Chamonix, hire a car and head to Geneva. The drive is relatively simple, and the destination is certainly a reward. Chamonix car hire is best booked online, where the rates are unbeatable.
