A key gateway to the magnificent Rhone Alps, Chambery Airport is within a two-hour drive of dozens of top ski resorts including Meribel, Chamonix and Les Arcs, and is just 15 minutes from the picturesque Chambery city centre. Holidaymakers and business travellers alike can opt for car hire to get the most out of a visit to the region, although private coach transfers and taxi services are also on offer directly from the terminal building.

Car rental patrons can choose from a selection of internationally recognised firms operating at Chambery Airport. Europcar, Avis, Hertz, Sixt and National Car Rental all have desks inside the Arrivals hall.

Driving
Driving in France entails following similar rules to those seen in the United Kingdom and the enforcement of regulations is fairly rigid. Be aware that driving takes place on the right side of the road and breathalyser kits are now compulsory in all motor vehicles. Dangerous wintertime conditions are common in the Chambery area and those without experience in such scenarios are advised to use extreme caution on icy roadways.

Transport

There are a handful of options for ground transportation from Chambery Airport, with car hire being perhaps the best combination of value for money and convenience. Alternatively, those headed into town can make use of taxis, which can be very expensive. There are also regional coach transfers and public bus services into the city.

Taxis
Taxis can be acquired from the rank outside the arrival doors in front of the terminal building. The journey to the city takes around 15 minutes.

Buses
There is now a public stop directly in front of the terminal (turn to the left as you walk out) with service to the rail station and the city centre; the journey usually takes 20 to 30 minutes. Look for the Trans’Neige sign. For those heading to nearby ski resorts, numerous direct coach links are available to several popular destinations including Val d'Isere, Meribel, Les Archs, Chamonix and dozens of others. Trains
Direct rail service to the airport itself is not yet available. Chambery’s SNCF rail station is around 10 minutes from the airport by car and offers a 3 hour, 30 minute TGV link to Paris, as well as TER services to several regional destinations including Grenoble, Chamonix, Turin, Geneva and Lyon.

Terminals
Chambery is a regional airport served by only a handful of airlines, resulting in a single and easy to navigate terminal building. The facility is open daily from 08:00 to 22:00.

Parking
There are more than 300 parking spaces available year-round. All are situated in a single car park conveniently located next to the terminal and are free of charge for most stays. There are an additional 40 spaces on offer for those with coaches and larger vehicles.

Wi-Fi
Wireless internet access is not available at Chambery Airport at this time.

There is one ATM at the airport situated on the outside of the terminal building. No other banking services are available without travelling off site.

Shopping
Travellers can browse the gift shop on the ground floor of the airport, which offers standard items ranging from chocolates to handbags. Be sure to check out the locally produced selection of Chartreuse. Additionally, a small duty-free shop is on offer in the Departures area where you can pick up VAT-free perfumes, spirits, snacks and cosmetics.
