Carros is a diverse and thriving industrial zone with a rich heritage that is developing at an astounding rate and is located in the department of Alpes-Maritimes in the middle of the Var valley.

It is divided into three main areas: The Old Village; The New City created in 1963 and the Industrial Park that has over two hundred hectares of land housing four hundred companies.

For tourists, only Carros village will be of interest. It holds stunning views due to its altitude, so you can get a good look at the alpines whilst never being more than a mere twenty kilometres from the sea; an easy drive in the hire car (see below for details).

In this village resides the medieval feudal castle called the 'Castrum Carrosi' which is owned by The Order of the Knights of Malta and has survived in near perfect condition, dominating the Carros landscape.

Over the past few years and since the inclusion of Carros in the new department of Alpes Maritimes, there has been a steady flow of Italian immigrants giving the region a focus on agriculture that anyone with interest in modern farming would find fascinating.

There are a number of horse-riding excursions as well as riding schools in Carros as the terrain lends itself well to that type of activity. Furthermore, you can expect a number of walking routes, should hiking take your fancy. There are also swimming pools and excellent tennis courts for those tourists wanting a variety of leisure pursuits.
