Lying west of Nice, to the side of the River Var, Cagnes Sur Mer stands at an altitude of seventy-seven meters above sea level in the 'Provence Alpes Cte' region of south-eastern France. It is the largest suburb of Nice and one of the most visited by tourists.

Famed as the final home of Renoir, his last known address provides a great attraction for tourists. His estate is called the 'Les Collettes' and is completely surrounded by a grove of lush olive trees. An ideal day out when the sun is shining!

Cagnes is also famous for its horseracing, but more than this, it stands out for its long stretches of pebble beaches; as well as its fishing village and port called the Cros de Cagnes. It now has a large seaside resort and a yacht harbour which is an absolute must for all beach lovers and those looking to catch some sun.

Another location of general tourism interest, that can be reached easily by hire car (see below), is the village Haut de Cagnes situated inland from Cagnes-sur-Mer situated on a picturesque hill with close-quartered streets and houses within enclosing walls. It is overlooked by the fourteenth century building formerly the Chateau Grimaldi'.

Activities that you might like to take part in or watch include water sports; horse racing, both day and night; the Hippodrome, as well as the Exposition Internationale de la Fleur, a garden display that is an annual ten-day event in mid-April.
