The bustling capital city of the Charente department, Angouleme is located in southwestern France. The town is well-known for animation, illustrations and graphic arts, as well as captivating architecture that displays the charms of the past. The city is surrounded by lovely boulevards and old walls, offering scenic views of the surrounding areas. Walking along narrow, cobbled streets visitors will find themselves facing one of the most magnificent churches in the region, the cathedral of St Pierre, which was built in the Byzantine-Romanesque style in the 11th to 12th centuries.

Another notable attraction is the Town Hall, which boasts a modern structure and two towers that belonged to the chateau of the counts of Angouleme. The old town features a lovely cobbled restaurant quarter and several galleries. Tourists can also do some shopping at the many boutiques that are scattered around in the area.
