Juan Les Pins Downtown Guide

Guide

Located in Antibes, a commune in Alpes-Maritimes, Juan-Les-Pins is a town in the southeastern region of France. It is on the Cte d'Azur, a part of the Ligurian Sea.

Juan-les-Pins is known to tourists for its annual jazz festival called Jazz ? Juan which is held in July. On the street behind the stage near the sea, are ceramic tiles with the handprints of the musicians who played during past events. It is for this festival that music lovers flock to Juan-les-Pins during July.

The area is located in the west of Antibes, a town on the western ridge. It is also halfway to Golfe-Juan, the old fishing village where Napoleon landed in the 19th century. It got part of its name from pins, the French word for pine trees. This area has many stone pine trees, where the residents of Antibes go to have picnics, promenades or to collect pinewood that they use for their stoves. In 1882, the town was given the name Juan-les-Pins, using the Spanish spelling Juan, instead of the French Jean.

In 1883, a rail station was built on the Paris-Lyon-Mditerrane rail line. This line has been passing Juan-les-Pins since 1863. Up to this time, this is still a popular route to get to Juan-les-Pins.

Juan-les-Pins is a popular destination for people who enjoy the nightlife through clubbing and playing in the casinos. It also has beaches made up of very fine grained sand.

New Orleans is the sister city of Juan-Les-Pins. In fact, in the past years during the Juan-les-Pins festivities, both local and some New Orleans jazz bands join the parade.
