Kajaani is a beautiful city situated in the Oulu province. It is the capital of the Kainuu region, and is located near the Lake Oulu in Finland. The Governor General of Finland, Per Brahe, founded Kajaani in 1651. One of the most significant historical monuments in Kajaani is the Kajaani Castle, or rather, the ruins of the Kajaani Castle. It is located on one of the islands in the Kajaani River. The construction of the castle began in 1604, and it was completed by 1666. The castle played a significant role along the years, serving as a prison, military base, administrative centre, and as a refuge for citizens.

The important industries in Kajaani in present times are the sawdust, paper and lumber industries. The military base present at Kainuu Brigade also provides employment to the citizens.
