What do I need to do when picking up a car?

To pick up your car, you will need your voucher, passport, driver's license and a credit card. It is very important that your driver's license and credit card are in the same name as the main driver. Keep in mind that the local rental company will reserve a certain amount on your credit card as a deposit. This requires the PIN code for your credit card. If your driver's license is foreign (for example, in Chinese), you must bring a translation with you. Only your original passport and driver's license will be accepted - a copy is not sufficient.

Uruguay is one of South America's smaller nations. It is located on the Atlantic Ocean side of the continent and has inland borders with Argentina and Brazil. Punta Del Este is a premier seaside resort found on the peninsula on the southeast corner of the country's coast. Punta Del Este Airport, also known as Capitan Corbeta CA Curbelo Airport, is located approximately 15kms northwest of the town and is a joint naval and public sector airport. Car hire at Punta Del Este Airport is the most convenient means of travel, and should be booked prior to travel.

Airport Facilities

Regional carriers offer flights from domestic cities and other South American countries. The airport boasts a modern passenger terminal with amenities that include diverse retail outlets, dining and refreshment establishments such as Il Greco Restaurant, and public phones. There is a VIP and FBO VIP club as well a duty free shop, Mary OZ Boutique selling beautiful accessories and The Viceroy selling books and magazines. The airport also has a currency exchange bureau and ATM.

Exploring Punta del Este

At the end of the town peninsula tourists should visit the Monumento al Ahogado, Punta Del Este's River Plate and Atlantic beaches. The beaches are safe for swimming and some are suitable for surfing. Punta Del Este's older colonial structures contrast pleasingly with the town's modern buildings. Gorlero Avenue, is where tourists will come across the majority of the town's accommodation, dining and nightlife venues either on it or nearby.

East of Punta Del Este are the beaches of Jose Ignacio and La Barra. These beaches are not as crowded and offer a good location for watching sunsets.
