Located three miles from White Plains’ central business district, Westchester Airport serves New York State’s Westchester County, which is situated just north of New York City. It is the entry point of the suburban upscale communities that are home to commuters heading to the big city as well as lovely parks, markets and the Hudson River’s Riverwalk. Buses make the journey into White Plains, though taxis and limousines will get you there more quickly. Still, the most convenient way to reach the city and other cities and towns in the county is with car hire in Westchester Airport, which is also the best way to travel around.
Who to Book With
There are a number of world renowned car hire companies at the airport, including Avis, Budget and Enterprise. Counters are located in the Arrivals hall, while vehicles are collected in a dedicated car park next to the terminal building. It is best to reserve the vehicle of your choice beforehand, as this is the most popular way to leave the airport.

Driving
Interstates 87, 95, 287 and 684 serve Westchester County, with Interstate 684 being the main route in and out of the airport. These routes are all toll-free, as are the numerous parkways that serve the country. Self-drive is the best way to get around Westchester, with parking plentiful and traffic tame. Traffic occurs during common rush hours close to the commuter railway stations but otherwise is quite manageable. There are more than enough petrol stations around that are both automatic and serviced, though payment must be made before the petrol is pumped. Most stations will accept credit cards but not all will accept cards issued in the UK.

Self-drive is a quick and convenient way for passengers to access White Plains and all other cities and towns in the county. Taxis and limousines make the journeys just as fast but for a hefty price, while buses take much longer and do not reach all areas of Westchester.
Trains
There is no direct train service to the airport though public buses make a stop at the White Plains railway station. From here, passengers can get a train to New York City’s Grand Central Station along Metro-North Railroad’s Harlem Line. The travel time between the stations varies but is never more than 52 minutes and costs around £5.
Taxis
DLC Ground Transportation Services provides taxi services at the airport. Vendors not licensed by the Westchester Airport cannot pick up or drop off passengers without prior arrangements. Limousine service is also available here through Limousine Service of Westchester.

Buses
Local Bee-Line Bus route 12 runs between the airport and White Plains railway station, passing through Rye, Purchase and Harrison along the way. It takes 30 minutes to reach the railway station and costs less than £2, with payment being accepted only in coins. Buses leave the airport between 07:26 and 18:49 Monday to Friday and between 08:40 and 18:20 on the weekend.
Terminals
Westchester Airport has one three-level terminal building that serves nearly 200,000 passengers annually. Flights travel here from other destinations within the USA as well as Nassau, Bahamas. UK travellers can access the airport via Chicago, Atlanta, Philadelphia or Charlotte.
Parking
There are two car parks at the airport, one adjacent to the terminal building and one less than one mile away that is used for overflow. A free shuttle bus is available to take passengers from the terminal to the overflow lot and vice versa. Both of these car parks charge the same rate of around £4.50 for each hour with a daily maximum of around £19. There is also a Cell Phone Lot that can be used for picking up arriving passengers.

Passengers can use wireless internet free of charge throughout the entire terminal building.

Accessibility
Assistance is available for passengers with reduced mobility, though this needs to be prearranged directly through the airline. Toilets and lifts are wheelchair accessible and there are a few dedicated spaces in the car park.
Restaurants and Bars
There are a number of kiosks in the terminal building that serve food and beverages as well as a full service restaurant with views over the airfield. There is also a coffee shop and a bar onsite. Most food service is available in the public area before passing through security.

There are currently no VIP lounges here.
Money and ATMs
There is an ATM near the escalator on the second floor of the terminal building that dispenses US dollars. There are no currency exchange booths here so it is best to arrive with some US dollars in your wallet.
Shopping
There is one gift shop in the terminal building that also sells magazines, beverages and snacks. Though the airport is open 24 hours a day the gift shop is not; it closes at 20:00.
