Treasure Island is a hotel and casino located on the Las Vegas strip in Nevada. Treasure Island has received a four diamond rating for over ten years. The hotel is owned and operated by the MGM Mirage. Treasure Island is connected to the Mirage and the Fashion Show Mall by a tram.
The hotel has more than 2,600 rooms and 220 suites. It opened in 1993 and cost an estimated 450 million dollars. The original plans for Treasure Island began as an extra tower to be added to the Mirage, but instead became its own hotel and casino resort.
The original intention of the Treasure Island themes was to attract families with features like the video arcade, the staged pirate battles, and the skull and crossbones strip marquee. Treasure Island began abandoning this concept in 2003 so that the resort could turn into a contemporary playground for adults. The arcade was replaced with a nightclub and bar, and the kid friendly pool was replaced with a hot tub.
Treasure Island appears in much of popular culture including Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story, Miss Congeniality 2, Beavis and Butthead Do America, and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas.
Treasure Island has a lot of entertainment to offer its guests. There is the Sirens of TI that is located where Buccaneer Bay used to be. It is a live free show that include singing, dancing, and audio-visual effects. Bare chested pirates and attractive women are featured in this live show. The hotel is also the home of the Cirque du Soliel's Mystery. This show opened in 1993 and have been voted the best production show in the city nine times.
