Krabi is a popular destination, even though it has been well developed for the tourist industry it is still in keeping with its beautiful surroundings. Ao Nang is a lovely beach that fills with tourists during the winter season, but is a very beautiful place. All western conveniences are found here, but it retains a typical Thai character, with endless restaurants, souvenir and cheap clothes shops.
The most spectacular beach on this coastline is found at Rai Leh, reachable by boat only, due to the impassable topography. It too is busy and popular with rock climbers. But many are content to vegetate on the beach and admire the view.
Visit Phi Phi islands, which enjoy the most stunning scenery in Thailand, consisting of tower limestone mountains sandwiching sweeping bays of white sandy beaches and turquoise water. The diving here is especially good, but the resorts get busy and pricey.
Krabi town doesn’t have a beach but is located on a large river mouth with a promenade and relaxed atmosphere, It is here you can truly appreciate the friendliness and character of the locals, there are numerous restaurants and guest houses, good shopping opportunities and it is generally cheaper.
Within easy drive of Krabi are several intriguing attractions, the strangest being the Shell Fossil Cemetery, which is positioned along the coast and a feature which took more than 75 million years to create. Wat Tham Suea is a must-see sight positioned among a cave which overhangs below a fantastic geological feature, a karst butt. A difficult trek to the chedi on the summit reveals fantastic scenic views. Several excellent national parks are also located in this area.
