Tongyeong is a city situated within approximately 150 islands in South Gyeongsang region, South Korea. Tongyeong means 'command post'. In the past, it was known as Chungmu, which was named after Admiral Yi Sun-sin. Yi Soon-shin was a Korean naval leader; widely known for his famous victory against the Japanese navy in 1598.

Tongyeong City has sea on three sides of the border. The coast is sprinkled with many small islands and is a city of beauty and cleanliness. The annual Hansandae Festival is celebrated here. The city holds another specialty of delivering Yuja and Chungmu Gimbab which are rice wrapped with seaweed.

Tongyeong is a favored tourist attraction in the southern border of the Korean peninsula. It is a busy tourist spot among the visitors in the summer. The ports of Tongyeong have a history of attracting more boat fans than any other cities in South Korea. The three most attracting sites in Tongyeong are Somaemuldo Island, Hansando Island, Nammangsan Sculpture Park.

Hallyeo Maritime National Park, Somaemuldo Island is an hour ride on a ferry from the Port. The island can be found along the Korean Peninsula and is mostly famous for its strange shaped rocks all around the cliffs. The sea around the Somaemuldo Island is so clear and blue that the bottom is visible. And from the Mangtaebong Peak you can see the entire island.

Hansando Island is a historical place of importance. General Lee Sun-Shinwon won his great victory here. The island has 960 square km of large forest full of camellias and old red pines.

A nice way to view Tongyeong is from the citizens' park at Mt. Nammangsan. In 1953, locals built Nammangsan Outdoor Sculptural Park here. This park shows the persistent works of fifteen famous sculptors from ten countries from Tongyeong International Sculpture Symposium.

Overall, Tongyeong is a great place to visit. The transport sector of the city includes trains, bus and car hire companies. Easy transportation makes the tours comfortable.
