South Africa's third-oldest town is famous for its natural landscape as well as its heritage architecture. It is only 40 miles outside of Cape Town, and the most popular way to get around is with car rental in Paarl. Tourists get more out of a visit with the mobility of a hire car.

The most prominent attraction in town is Paarl Rock, a huge granite outcropping that characterizes the local landscape. Paarl Rock is in the Paarl Mountain Nature Reserve which sidles up on the city's left side and is easily reached by car via access roads that branch off of R45.

Those who don't drive in may arrive via Paarl Railway station, which is in the city centre near the Huguenot Bypass. Trains connect south to Cape Town or north to nearby smaller communities in the immediate area. It is possible to pick up cheap car hire in Paarl any of these railway stations.

The most important motorway with access to Paarl is N1, which passes south of the town centre. Travelling west, N1 is broad and connects to Cape Town in a mere 40 minutes. Travelling east, the road cuts through the entire country all the way to the distant east coast.

Cape Town international airport is also in the vicinity and sees a great deal of traffic from Johannesburg and select international cities. With car hire in Paarl you can drive to the airport via N1. The airport is the most popular hire car depot in the region and can be reached by car from Paarl in under 40 minutes.
