Sohar Guide

The luxurious Sohar Beach Hotel provides a traditional Omani welcome to their guests. The hotel has been styled to resemble an ancient Omani fort. While the exterior, complete with buttresses, dominates the skyline, its cool marble interiors are well-appointed and are sophisticated and elegant.

Guest facilities are extensive with swimming pools, tennis courts, private beach and gymnasium. A number of restaurants, nightclubs, banking facilities, car hire and shops can be found within the complex.

When exploring Sohar, car hire will allow you the mobility required to explore this beautiful part of Oman. Charming Sohar was once Oman's capital and was the birthplace of Sinbad. Set on the Batinah coast in the Gulf of Oman, Sohar is like a desert oasis with its lush green countryside and palm-lined beaches.

The maze of narrow passageways and streets in the city centre give the area an old world charm. However, this is not at the cost of modern amenities. A number of restaurants and charming shops can be found within the town's historic centre. Fishing and agriculture are important to the Sohar's local economy. The port's fish market, or souk, in Sohar, is well worth a visit. Local catches include shark, snapper lobster and grouper.

Once a month, during the winter months, Sohar hosts bullfights which are quite different from their European blood sport equivalents. Rather than man against bull, these contests pit bull against bull in a test of strength.

Car hire is essential for exploring the beautiful countryside around Sohar. Ancient copper mines, close to the town, and Jebel Akdar, the Green Mountain, offer a chance to appreciate this Omani area's natural beauty and history. At the base of the Green Mountain are the fortified towns of Nizwa, Ibri, and Rustaq.

To pick up your car, you will need your voucher, passport, driver's license and a credit card. It is very important that your driver's license and credit card are in the same name as the main driver. Keep in mind that the local rental company will reserve a certain amount on your credit card as a deposit. This requires the PIN code for your credit card. If your driver's license is foreign (for example, in Chinese), you must bring a translation with you. Only your original passport and driver's license will be accepted - a copy is not sufficient.

 Are there any additional costs?

In general, our rates are all-inclusive. Should there be any additional costs, our booking department will get in touch with you before issuing the invoice. Should you object, you can always cancel your reservation with no obligations attached (at least 48 hours in advance).

What kind of insurance is applicable to my car rental?
