The booking form told us

The booking form told us to ring for the shuttle from the airport,on arrival. After several unsuccessful attempts at getting a reply we went for a taxi. The taxi driver told us that there was a shuttle minibus waiting further up the departure area, which we found to be correct. The shuttle driver was expecting us, so why was that not communicated to us when we booked the car?

Hokitika is a popular destination visited by many tourists everywhere. The Hokitika airport is consistently busy with daily flights. Located west of the Southern Alps, and west of the Coast Heartland, when you visit Hokitika you will experience culture that cannot be found anywhere else. It is small town consisting of approximately 3,500 residents, finding a taxi may even be difficult - best to find a car hire service and take care of transportation on your own.

With a beautiful beach and a sometimes wild river, Hokitika is in the middle of rainforests and wetlands. It rains here, a lot. Even with roughly same number of sunshine hours as Auckland and Christchurch, Hokitika also experiences 2800 mm per year of rainfall - much more than a lot of other cities.

Although the skies to get cloudy when the rain comes, once they clear up, look to the south and you will see Mt. Cook, and Mt. Tasman. These are two of New Zealand's highest mountains and their traditional names are Aoraki and Horo Kawau, respectively. When you fly into the Hokitika airport you will probably notice many shops selling jewelry and artifacts made with pounamu. This is greenstone, or sometimes called New Zealand jade. Historically this region has been an important source for the stone and its interesting properties. Pounamu can be made to have an edge which is as hard as steel, but still retain a unique beauty. What do I need to do when picking up a car?

To pick up your car, you will need your voucher, passport, driver's license and a credit card. It is very important that your driver's license and credit card are in the same name as the main driver. Keep in mind that the local rental company will reserve a certain amount on your credit card as a deposit. This requires the PIN code for your credit card. If your driver's license is foreign (for example, in Chinese), you must bring a translation with you. Only your original passport and driver's license will be accepted - a copy is not sufficient.
