Dallas

The Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex area contains the largest population in Texas. No other American city boasts more shopping centres per capita than Dallas, but this modern metropolis has much more to offer. In fact, the famous Southfork Ranch of TV fame is actually situated outside of Dallas in the community of Parker and offers guided tours.

The neighbourhoods of Dallas range from the suburban North Dallas to the elegant Turtle Creek to the more modern Uptown area. While driving between Dallas and neighbouring Fort Worth by rented RV, visitors can stop for some fun at the Six Flags Over Texas Amusement Park. A Batman stunt show is among the highlights of this rollercoaster-filled park open between March and December. Fort Worth's own major attractions are its zoo, its Museum of Living Art, and its gardens, which drop well below street level.

Attractions

One of the most distinctive skyscrapers in Dallas is the 55-floor Reunion Tower. The views from the rotating restaurant and observation tower are especially stunning. The primarily residential Wilson Building was designed after the Grand Opera House in Paris.

Fair Park features a large percentage of Dallas attractions within its Art Deco buildings. Museums dedicated to African American history, women, natural history, and the age of steam are all situated in this National Historic Landmark. The park is also home to the Cotton Bowl Stadium and the Children's Aquarium at Fair Park.

Another place to observe all sorts of sea life in Dallas is the Dallas World Aquarium, with its underground observation tunnel. A monorail safari is the most thrilling attraction at Dallas Zoo, the state's biggest collection of animals and one of the country's most extensive African animal exhibits.

Old City Park is actually a living history museum depicting Texas life from 1840 to 1910. Victorian homes, a church, and a working farm from the Civil War are among the park's 38 buildings. White Rock Lake is a popular weekend retreat for its many picnic spots, trails, and bird watching society. The John F. Kennedy Memorial is a simple square structure marking the spot where the former president was shot in 1963.

Driving in Dallas

Morning and evening rush hour traffic is the only major challenge RV drivers will face in the automobile friendly city of Dallas. However, Highway 635 should be avoided if possible during weekday rush hours. Interstate 35 splits into Interstate 35 West and Interstate 35 East through the Metroplex. The Dallas area does, surprisingly, experience snowfall a few times per year and many motorists are unaccustomed to winter driving. The regular blood alcohol limit in Texas is 80 mg/dL; motorists who test at higher levels can face stiffer penalties.
